Starstruck

I'm not usually one to be interested in celebrity gossip, sightings or style... usually. But yesterday was an exception. A coworker of mine (who is one to be interested in celebrity gossip) rushed out of his office yesterday afternoon to announce that Angelina Jolie and her daughter, Zahara, had been at Timeless Toys in Lincoln Square that morning. Apparently, Angelina had taken a break from filming Wanted to bring Zahara to the quaint neighborhood toy store. The only reason this was at all interesting to me is because Timeless Toys is literally steps from my apartment. Steps. Even as I write this, I think, so what? But for some reason, there is something thrilling about a real live Hollywood star walking in the very same steps you take every day. She might as well have been in my apartment. Although my friends and I couldn't figure out why she would opt for a little neighborhood store over something more glamorous downtown, I secretly think: who wouldn't want to visit Lincoln Square?!

On a more substantive note, Timeless Toys was rated the best toy store in the city by Chicago Magazine and it was featured in the Chicago Tribune. I have experienced its grace and charm on a number of occasions, whether buying gifts for our niece and nephew or playing dress up over Memorial Day weekend.

It is a staple to our little neighborhood and perhaps Angelina knew that. Or perhaps she wanted to escape the glitz and glamor of downtown. Or maybe she just wanted to give us ordinary folks a chance to be starstruck.

I'm not surprised she came to our hood. She's eclectic like that and doesn't do what's "normal." EVER. When you told me about it, I also had this sinking feeling of disappointment that I wasn't there and didn't see them...and a sense of pride that her footsteps have walked my own. I'm starstruck too. Hopefully her, Brad, and the kids will find some other new places they like in Lincoln Square.

Do you ever see pictures of them with Shiloh? I never see her with her parents. Baby Suri is a completely different story though...she's always with mama!!!

I always knew you both were trendsetters, shopping there before the celeb's discovered it. Way to set the bar for the rest of us. All we have now to talk about is Eric "having" coffee with Harrison Ford...

They were at the Field Museum this weekend. I think they are stalking you guys. Maybe they will be at Celtic Crown for Buck Burgers tonight.

I got a rush of excitement just reading that she was at Timeless Toys and I don't even live near there, I just shop there! Seriously, what is it about celebrities that interests me? I read People magazine like junk food and even caught myself talking to Linnea and Carmela about a freakin' spice girl like she was our friend. Yikes!

I'll admit that I check People.com twice a day.
